West Ham boss Allardyce targets eighth place finish – ‘We should already be there’

first_img West Ham boss Sam Allardyce 1 West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has targeted a top eight finish and believes his side should already be challenging for a European spot.Allardyce is still convinced his side can have a memorable end to the campaign despite a nightmare start to 2015 which has seen the club win just one of their last 11 league games.West Ham broke into the top four in the first half of the season and were strong contenders to challenge for at least a Europe League place. But despite the team suffering a poor run of form since the end of December, Allardyce feels they will quickly turn things around and hopes the warm weather training camp in Dubai over the last few days will re-energise the squad and give them the lift they need to have a successful end to the season.Allardyce, speaking on Sport 360, said: “Eighth for us is achievable. We should already be there. We should have achieved a lot more points, but we haven’t. That shows you the frailties of the squad.“Our performances have been excellent but our victories have turned into draws and this had made us slip down the league a little bit. For now it’s about the last ten games, securing as many points as possible and trying to hit the target of eighth in the league.“Everything has been as perfect as always [in Dubai]. We have been doing this trip for many years and every time we get back to England we always see an increase in the physical output of the players.“Everybody enjoys training in this climate rather than the cold weather back in England. Hopefully it has served its purpose again and we will have some very good results when we return to England.”last_img read more
