Men’s Basketball Faces UNI Saturday

first_imgThe Drake University men’s basketball team returns to the road to face in-state rival UNI on Saturday evening. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the McLeod Center with the contest being broadcast on Panther Sports Network affiliates and The Valley on ESPN3.Both teams are aiming to return to the win column as Drake is 5-10 this season and has lost three-straight MVC contests to open the conference season. UNI is 9-7, but has dropped two-straight conference games to stand at 1-2 in the MVC. Of Drake’s 10 losses, seven have been by 10 or fewer points and six have been by eight or fewer points.Saturday’s game features two of the most accurate three-point shooting teams in the nation. Drake currently ranks 12th nationally at 41.5 percent while UNI is 24th at 39.8 percent. However, the Bulldogs have shot 34.0 percent in their three MVC games to date. The Bulldogs have shot 40 percent or better from the arc in 10 of their 15 games this season and over the last three seasons, the team is 7-26 when failing to shoot 40 percent or better from the arc.Three Bulldogs – Reed Timmer, Kale Abrahamson and Graham Woodward – rank in the top 10 in the MVC in three-point percentage while Timmer is averaging 17.4 points per game this season, the 12th-most in the nation by a sophomore and most in the MVC. Timmer is fourth overall in scoring in the MVC while Kale Abrahamson is seventh with 15.5 points per game. Graham Woodward adds 12.8 points per game to rank 11th in the league in scoring.The Panthers are led by Wes Washpun’s 15.2 points points per game that ranks eighth in the MVC this season. UNI has won two-straight meetings to hold a 41-25 lead in the series and a 25-5 margin in Cedar Falls. Following Saturday’s contest, the Bulldogs remain on the road to face Evansville on Jan. 12 for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Print Friendly Versionlast_img read more
