The proposal for the housing is born from the spaces and from its connection, understanding that the daily activity of the house overlaps and mixes different rooms. The dining room is considered, in double space, as the central and main space of the house. The condition of centrality will mean connecting to the majority of uses, thus articulating the living room, access to the kitchen, stairs to the first floor, the terrace on the main façade and the hall. In the same way, on the first floor the double space of the dining room organizes access to the two upper rooms and offers a study area.Save this picture!© Pol Viladoms ClaverolSave this picture!© Pol Viladoms ClaverolThe existing vegetation on the plot is intended to be incorporated inside the house by a strong internal-external relationship through the control of visuals in order to focus and frame certain interesting panoramas, such as the view of the Serra de Tramuntana or the interior visuals of the same plot, and working these visuals with large openings that introduce the landscape as an image of the house. Given the privacy premise, very important, these openings are made mostly in the back of the house, coinciding with the good views. The relationship with the neighborhoods has been minimized, placing just a few openings towards them.Save this picture!Ground floor plan / 1st floor planSave this picture!Section 01The structure of the house will be seen in all cases and will characterize the image of the interior spaces explaining the constructive system used,  which will have also have a direct response in the generation of spaces and the determination of pavements. SA, Cuba trade ‘below potential’

first_img6 November 2012 There is plenty of room for improvement in the levels of trade and investment between South Africa and Cuba, Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies said at the opening of the South African Pavilion at the 30th Havana International Fair in Cuba on Sunday. Eighteen South African companies are exhibiting at the Fair, representing the capital equipment, electro-technical, mining, agro-processing, engineering and metals sectors. Davies noted that the current levels of trade between the two countries were extremely modest and below what they had been in the past, despite a number of interventions by both governments. “But I’m happy to say this year, the 30th Havana International Fair anniversary is coinciding with the ratification of the agreement which was reached during the [2010 state] visit by President Zuma.”R350m assistance package South Africa is providing Cuba with a R350-million economic assistance package that Davies believes could help to turn the country’s trade and investment pattern around. The package comprises a R40-million grant for the purchase of seeds by Cuba, a R100-million solidarity grant, and credit lines of R70-million and R140-million. Davies said that Cuba continued to provide training for South African doctors, as well as vaccines that were used in South Africa’s public health sector. He added that South Africans should never forget the sacrifices made by Cuba in helping the country in its transition to democracy. “If it had not been for the contributions and sacrifices that Cuba made to the battle of Cuito Cuanavale and the impact it had on Namibian Independence, and [the effect] Namibian Independence had on the transition to democracy in South Africa, I think we might well find ourselves battling with the demon of apartheid for several more years, and possibly a decade longer than we did,” Davies said. Virat Kohli caps sensational 2016 with record-shattering feats

first_imgIndia Test captain Virat Kohli’s sensational run in 2016 is only getting better by the day. To say that Kohli has been brilliant this year would be an understatement. (Scorecard)The 28-year-old has become the cornerstone of India’s Test team, a finisher par excellence in ODIs and a dominant force in T20s.Kohli has been in record-shattering form this year, scoring heavily in all formats. He has set new records in T20s, has slammed three hundreds in nine ODIs, and hammered three hundreds, including two double centuries in 10 Tests. He has now surpassed England’s Joe Root (2399 runs) to become the leading run-scorer in international cricket this year. (Murali Vijay answers critics with stylish eighth hundred)Continuing with his record-breaking spree, Kohli today became the first Indian to aggregate 1000 Test runs in a calendar year since Rahul Dravid, who made 1145 runs in 2011. He also surpassed 2000 runs as the Test captain of the Indian side and now averages more than 50 in all three formats of the game.Virat Kohli also became the 14th Indian to complete 4000 runs in Test cricket. He is the second youngest for India after Sachin Tendulkar to accomplish this feat. (Virat Kohli slams England’s mid-tour break for Christmas)That’s not all. The aggressive Delhi batsman is also the first Indian captain in last 10 years and only the fourth overall to aggregate 1000 Test runs in a year.Kohli reached the milestones on the third day of the ongoing fourth Test as India made steady progress towards England’s first-innings total of 400 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. (Captain courageous Virat Kohli best in the business right now)advertisementThe hosts, leading 2-0 in the five-match series, reached 247/2 in their first innings at lunch, still trailing England by 153 runs. Resuming on 146 for one, the hosts suffered an early jolt when Cheteshwar Pujara (47) was bowled on the second ball of the morning. However, it proved to be the only success for the English bowlers in the opening session as Vijay and Kohli flayed the attack. (No similarities in playing style between me and Kohli: Tendulkar)While Vijay reached his second century of the series, the in-form Kohli took little time to get out of the blocks, making sure England could not build pressure after the early wicket of Pujara. However, Vijay had a lapse in concentration after lunch and gave his wicket to leg-spinner Adil Rashid to end the 116-run stand for the third wicket. Kohli, meanwhile, reached his 15th Test fifty off 111 balls. From leading his side to U-19 ICC World Cup glory in 2008 in Kuala Lumpur to guiding India to the No.1 spot in Test rankings in 2016, Kohli has come a long way from being a batting prodigy to being one of the top batsmen and leaders of his generation.last_img read more

Florida electric utility completes smartgrid installations

The power company advantage is that it can improve systems before serious problems surface. The company believes its project will realize real value in fewer outages and lower electric bills for customers. So far, 400 malfunctioning transformers were sensed before they caused a power outage, said FPL, and smart meters allowed the power company to solve smaller problems without having to send out crews. The ongoing success of Florida’s smart grid in improving efficiencies and reducing outages will be worth tracking in light of how the FPL implementation might motivate improvements elsewhere in the U.S., according to energy watchers. The prevailing attitude is that, saddled with aging architectures, the way to avoid power outages is through monitoring a smartgrid to stem problems from getting out of hand. The Florida effort is being applauded because of the large scale of the FPL’s grid.Commenting on the meters and other devices used, observed how all that equipment is networked and “sending data back to the utility, data that can be used to identify problems before they cause an outage – and reduce the length and area affected if outages do happen.”Said FPL President Eric Silagy, “While no electric system can be fully stormproof, and we have been working to strengthen the grid and improve its resiliency for some time, the acceleration of this effort will help us get businesses up and running and residents’ lives back to normal more quickly after storms.” Citation: Florida electric utility completes smartgrid installations (2013, May 5) retrieved 18 August 2019 from Benefits of a ‘smart’ power grid in debated ( —Florida Power & Lighting has completed its $800 million smart grid upgrade, with installations of 4.5 million smart meters. Smart meters are digital devices that use radio frequencies to communicate with automated feeder switches and other devices on poles and power lines. The meters can measure a building’s use of electricity. FPL installed 4.5 million smart meters alongside more than 10,000 sensors. FPL says the benefit to customers is that by installing the smart meters each customer can get on the Internet to see the power being used by the hour, day, and month. The customer can also see bill estimates based on current usage patterns. FPL believes more information can lead to customers making more informed choices about usage and costs. Overall, a smart grid can automatically sense and gather data about consumer habits.last_img read more
