Sierra Madre City Council Selects a Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem, Swears in Three New Council Members

first_img Community News Top of the News On Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Reorganization Meeting, John Harabedian was selected as the new Mayor by fellow Council Members. John Capoccia was selected as the Mayor Pro-Tem. Harabedian and Capoccia will serve in their respective roles for one-year. At the meeting, the City Clerk sworn in three new Council Members, Gene Goss, Rachelle Arizmendi, and Denise Delmar who were all elected to serve four-year terms in the election held on April 8, 2014.Born and raised in Sierra Madre, Mayor John Harabedian was elected to a four-year seat on the City Council on in 2012. He served as Mayor Pro-Tem from April 23, 2013 – April 22, 2014. He attended Sierra Madre Elementary School and St. Rita Elementary School before graduating from Loyola High School, Yale University (B.A.), Oxford University (M.Sc.), and Stanford Law School (J.D.). Mayor Harabedian is an attorney with the international law firm Latham & Watkins LLP, practicing out of its Los Angeles office. He previously served as a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs.The Sierra Madre City Council is comprised of five members elected to four-year terms. The Council is responsible for general City policy, as well as for the appointment of the City Manager, City Attorney, and members of the City’s Boards and Commissions.
